Reaching Arab youth with “Prohibited Questions”

A new television program for Arab youth talks about topics forbidden in shame based cultures.

Roughly two thirds of the Arab World are under the age of eighteen. For these young people there exists a clash between tradition and post-modernity with one of the biggest issues being their sexual-identity. Shame based cultures like those found across the Middle East and North Africa region makes transparency even more rare to find. Miracle Channel seeks to be a positive voice in this sea of competing influences with a groundbreaking program called “Prohibited Questions.”

Initially, the idea for this program expressed itself as a felt need from Miracle Channel’s viewers who were calling in asking for prayer or counseling regarding these topics and issues.

Subsequently, we did surveys and research through our own social media including a Facebook page from one of our shows entitled “Connect with Me” that has 46 thousand fans – mostly youth.

Our YouTube Channel also provided statistics that indicated that historically our highest rated program was a similar program we did for adults. We followed up with research among youth pastors at churches and 36 young people in different regions.

The content of the program is centered on topics related to relationships and sexual identity based on the belief that true love, wholeness and selfless relationship cannot exist without Christ. The adult version of this series is already airing. Here are some comments from viewers who are helped by this program:
From Syria:
“Thank you most respectfully for this program and for all who present it. Thank you for the host who takes up important and sensitive issues.»

Mohammed:
I often follow your programs. I have many questions, but I don’t know if you allow this? Your program is very useful, and I trust your answers.”

Saba:
Fantastic program, may God bless you! It would be great if you mentioned what the topic of the program the following week is as some of us are waiting for specific topics, and we would like to know when those programs are aired!

Malak:
Excellent program, and extremely useful as I have many thoughts about the sexual relationship in a marriage. Thank you.

From Syria:
First of all I will thank you for all the effort you put into this program and for Miracle Channel. May God bless you. I am married, and I follow this program and it has helped me with many issues regarding my relationship with my husband. I have one request. Could you please add more of these programs to your website so we can download them and watch them at any time, or show them to our friends who may not have a chance to watch the channel?

Hany:
May God’s peace be with all of you who work on this program. I would really like to thank you for all the work that goes in to making it.

Miracle Channel can be viewed by 400 million viewers on Hotbird and NileSat. Every single day we hear from hundreds of Arab speaking viewers responding to our television programs with sincere questions about God and Jesus, often requesting prayer and a bible. You can help us with this ministry by supporting us with a gift today. Thank you!
