Helping families reach their dreams

A new parenting programs launched in 2015 on Miracle Channel show families how to reach their dreams.

Family dreams are as varied as the cultural and religious diversity that characterizes them. Yet for many families they are quite simple. A family dream can be every member sitting down together for a meal. Maybe it is equal opportunity for the daughters or help with a special needs child. Maybe it is shuffling a demanding schedule, and always feeling defeated. Maybe it is financial challenges. Most families struggle to keep it all together, even in the best of times.

Dr. Rafik Refaat is based out of London where he is in charge of coordinating help and support to over 800 000 municipal families while overseeing a staff of 70 doctors. He has graciously lent his expertise to Miracle Channel to support and strengthen families in the Arab world.

-It is 24 years since I left Egypt, but my desire is to help Arab families across the socio-economic classes and religion, he says.

-How they parent is very different in these groups, but they all have needs.

Through exploring a number of topics, he hopes he will be able to put families on the path to achieving their family dreams in the process of having their needs met. This includes the challenge of living with special needs children, how to recognize symptoms and how to support them.

-One of the problems in the Arab world is that people generally know so little about special needs children and various syndromes, such as ADHD and OCDC, explains the physician.

– What many people in Arab countries don’t know is that there is professional help available today for these challenges. There is little public awareness about special needs children, and what happens is that the child may be taken out of school and considered an exceptionally difficult child, instead of getting the medical help they need.

-We will also be talking about addictions in parents and how that affects children, as well as abuse and domestic violence, and how that affects children. Another topic will be living with the mental and psychological illness of one of the parents, the effect on the children and how to help them cope.

For many families, their dreams have been unattainable. But by applying simple biblical principles combined with the professional advice of experts, Dr. Rafiq explaines how there is hope and help for even the most traumatized.
