Bringing faith and hope to Arab women
November 1, 2012Bible group starting up in Syria following Miracle Program
December 11, 2012A pilot from a Gulf country came to faith in Christ after investigating the gospel online. Imprisoned for his new faith, he was able to share his testimony with hundreds of inmates before he was executed.
It is a staff member at Miracle Channel’s follow-up office that shares the story of the pilot from a Gulf country. There are countless Arab viewers who had their lives changed after watching Christian television programs on the internet and on Satellite television. Most of these stories we will never hear, but some of them get back to us, like this one.
An aircraft pilot and his friend were curious about the Christian faith, and did a search online. They had not been impressed by what they had witnessed on their trips to the western world. But despite starting his search with a critical mind, the pilot was impacted by what he read and heard. His friend lost interest, but after some time the pilot became convinced that the gospel was true, and he gave his life to Christ.
The pilot kept his faith secret. He continued watching Christian television programs, including Miracle Channel, to grow in his faith. After some time he realized he could not continue living his double life as a secret believer, and he decided to make an escape to a neighboring country. This pilot was also quite wealthy and a bit of a celebrity in his country. He planned an escape route, purchased a car in another name and left a letter together with a bible, explaining his decision to his wife and daughter. But the border guards recognized the pilot, and he was arrested and sent to a high security prison with hundreds of other inmates. The authorities did everything in their power to convince him to return to Islam. They also made it clear that if he did not recant his new faith, he would be executed by beheading.
But the pilot was able to share his faith with the other prisoners in his cell, and soon they were praying and reading the bible together. As a final attempt at making the pilot return to Islam, his wife and daughter were sent to visit him in the prison, with promises that he could return home with them if he denounced his new faith. The pilot used the opportunity to share the gospel with his family, assuring them of his love, but made it clear that he could never deny Christ.
-All the prisoners in the jail were forced to watch the execution, and as a last wish, the pilot asked for permission to address the inmates with his last words. The wish was granted, and the pilot used the opportunity to share his testimony while explaining the gospel to all the inmates, says the member of our follow-up staff.
Eyewitnesses, who later shared what happened, said that several of the prisoners cried and accepted Christ that day.
– It is very important that we remember to pray for our sisters and brothers in the Arab world who are paying a high cost for their faith, at the same time as we must hope and pray that more religious freedom will come to these countries, he adds.
