May 19, 2015Allowing young people to ask traditionally prohibited questions in the Arab culture is proving to be a door opener for the gospel.
“I am in pain and I feel very alone. I can’t focus on my studies, and I don’t feel that I can open the door and go out to face life”, writes a young girl in a letter to Miracle Channel. She is one of more than 10,000 youth who has engaged in personal conversations with our follow-up office after watching our television series, Prohibited Questions for Youth”.
This series came about after doing a similar series for adults, where cultural barriers crumbled as men and women for the first time opened up about personal problems they had been hiding for years. One woman told us:
“I was raped when I was six years old and I haven’t told anyone. As I was watching your program today, I was encouraged to call you, even though I am afraid after keeping this for myself for 20 years. I am afraid to open my wounds before you, which are still bleeding. I always feel that I have less worth than all the other people, and I suffer from low self-esteem. Please pray for me and I hope to find help.”
Since August of 2014, at least 760 young people from Muslim and Christian background have accepted Christ through Miracle Channel’s television series “Prohibited Questions for Youth”.
-We are learning how to communicate with youth by listening to them and reading their comments on our Facebook pages, says the follow-up manager of Miracle Channel.
As the puberty education at school and in the home is often minimal, youth from both Muslim and Christian background are following this program with great interest. They are engaging in discussions and contributing with comments and questions online. So far, the follow-up office have had 10,069 conversations and replied to 379 private messages from youth since the series was launched in 2014.
One father even called to ask questions about circumcision for his 12-year old daughter. He was given guidance on how his daughter could have a pure life without subjecting her to this cultural practice that would maim her for life. He was very thankful as the program provided him with educational information. He explained that he is separated from his wife and is raising his daughter alone. He said the program helped him deal better with his children.
In fact, both Muslim and Christian are calling this program, and a few Muslims say that they wish the commercial channels would also have educational programs of this nature. Youth in North Africa and the Middle East are grappling with the same questions that youth coming of age were asking a few decades ago in the west. But because of internet and new technology, many youths in the Arab world are turning to pornography sites that are only damaging to themselves and their future relationships. Through healthy discussions, factual information and counseling based on biblical principles, Arab youth are finding freedom from destructive relationships and a new hope for their future through faith in Jesus Christ.
This is how the young girl in the opening comments ended her letter to Miracle Channel:
“I love you because of the spirit of faith and love that you have. That you are faithful to your God. We don’t have a lot of information about Christianity, but we get that from your Channel. I saw in a dream that the Christians were alive, and I was dead. Since then I have been trying to figure out more about Christianity. Please call me and help me. Pray for me.”
-We see the response for this program is only increasing, and we believe this is a door God is opening up for us to reach the younger generation in the Arab world, concludes the follow-up manager.
