Historical Overview
Iraq, known in ancient times as Mesopotamia, is one of the most significant lands in human history. It is the cradle of civilization, where early writing, cities, and laws were formed, and where great empires such as the Sumerian, Assyrian, and Babylonian civilizations flourished. In the early centuries, Iraq also became a center of the Islamic world, shaping culture, science, and faith across the region. Christianity reached this land in the first century through the disciples of the Apostle Thomas, and the Church of the East grew into one of the oldest and most influential Christian movements, sending missionaries across Asia and contributing greatly to theology and learning.

Current Status
Modern Iraq has been deeply wounded by decades of dictatorship, war, sectarian violence, and terrorism. Long-standing divisions between Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish communities continue to strain the nation, while economic collapse, corruption, and displacement have left millions living in poverty and uncertainty. The Christian population has been dramatically reduced due to persecution, forced migration, and violence, especially during the rise of the Islamic State. Converts from Islam and young believers face rejection, intimidation, and severe pressure to abandon their faith. Yet amid suffering, a faithful remnant of believers remains. Many Iraqis, disillusioned by extremism and conflict, are searching for truth, and an increasing number are opening their hearts to Christ. Even in great hardship, God’s redemptive work continues, bringing renewal, courage, and hope to His Church and to a nation longing for peace.

Testimonials
My name is Khaled, I am 45 years old, and I work as a military doctor. The nature of my job requires me to be involved in counterterrorism efforts, which led me to participate in the liberation of several churches in Iraq. Through this experience, I witnessed the suffering of Christians due to extremism. I have always felt drawn to Christianity, so I began reading and researching until I came across Miracle page. There, the minister answered all my questions and told me who Christ is—that He is greater than a prophet. From that moment, I decided to follow Christ. My faith remains a secret to protect my family, but I know that Christ is always with me and will protect me.

My name is Aziz, I am 55 years old, from Iraq. Five years ago, I knew about Christ and had many spiritual experiences with Him. I wanted to be His child and servant, but I didn’t know how that could happen.
One day, I had a dream in which I was lying in bed and almost fell to the ground, but Christ embraced me before I could fall and placed me back on my bed. Yesterday, I was hit by a tuk-tuk and fell on my back. I couldn’t breathe and was in extreme pain. I asked the brothers on “Miracle” page to pray for me, and I took the cross I had and passed it over the areas where I felt pain—and I was healed!
I had known about Christ but didn’t understand how to truly be His child and disciple. That’s what I learned from the minister on the page. Now, I live my life with Christ in a completely different way after praying with the minister and accepting Christ as my personal Savior.

My name is Tarek from Iraq. I began searching for the true way to God after seeing contradictions in Qur’anic texts and in the behavior of religious people. I asked God to guide me to the right path until I dreamed of Christ telling me, “I am the way and the truth you are searching for.” I was convinced He is the true way. At that time I was going through difficult circumstances at work and discovered that my colleagues had done witchcraft against me. The minister on the page prayed with me, and I burned those works. Later I had problems with my wife because of my faith and I felt very discouraged. But Christ appeared to my eldest son in a dream and told him: “Tell your father not to be afraid, for I am with him. Tell him to continue on the path, and that he will testify about Me to many.”
I was greatly encouraged by these words. I began speaking to about eight of my friends about Christ and arranged with those who are discipling me to also help them in their journey of knowing Christ.

My name is Ahmed , I’m from Iraq, and I’m 20 years old. When I visited the “Miracle” page, I wanted to free myself from the superstitions I had believed in all my life. The minister began to tell me who Christ is—that He is the Word of God—and explained how we have all inherited Adam’s sin and now have a fallen nature, making it impossible for us to have a relationship with God as He intended from the beginning. He told me that repentance alone is not enough to save a person from sin, because sin must be punished, and that good deeds are not sufficient either. All human attempts to find a solution for sin and its punishment have failed. That’s why God Himself provided the solution by being crucified in our place. After I understood the truth, I accepted Christ into my life and asked Him to forgive my sins. I believe He is God who came to save me, and I feel a joy overflowing in my heart.

My name is Sabah, I’m 23 years old, and I’m from Iraq. I am an Alawite Muslim, but I love Christ very much. I used to envy my Christian friends because they were born into their faith. One day, I visited a page where a minister asked me what I knew about Christ. I replied, “He is a miracle from heaven, calls for love, and has performed many miracles.” She then shared the gospel message with me.
I struggled to understand how Christ could be both human and divine at the same time, and I had many questions. After she explained it to me, I told her that I loved Christ and that my soul belonged to him, even if outwardly it might not seem that way—because if I declared it openly, I would be at risk of being killed.
One day, I had a vision: there was a light in the sky, and a voice called out to me, saying that those who do not follow this light will perish. Then the vision disappeared. The minister helped me understand its meaning, and I told her that this light brought peace, security, and love to my heart. I prayed with her, saying:
“Dear God, I thank You for sending Your Only Son, Jesus Christ, to be crucified and to die for my sins. I believe that Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and rose victorious over death to grant me eternal life. I accept this in faith and acknowledge that Jesus is the only Lord of my life and my Savior. Please forgive me for all my sins and remove any other beliefs in my heart that do not align with Your holy word. Give me strength to live a new life in Christ, and I ask You to guide me in all the ways of life through Your Holy Spirit. Thank You, Lord, for the redemption You have given me through Your Son’s perfect work. Amen.”
